Why this site exists
The game is usually learned the same way it has been for generations: a board scratched in chalk on a floor or drawn on paper, and an older cousin or grandparent explaining the rules as you go. Those rules vary from family to family and region to region, and very little of that variety is written down anywhere online.
Tigadi is an attempt to keep the game easy to pick up for anyone, anywhere — someone who played it as a child and wants a quick match, a parent teaching it to their children, or a curious player who has only met the European nine men’s morris and wants to see how the Indian versions differ.
What you will find here
- A playable board, against a computer opponent at several difficulty levels, against a friend on the same device, or against a friend online through a private room link.
- A complete, plain-language rule book, including the rules that differ from the commonly published nine men’s morris rules.
- Strategy guides for the placing and moving phases.
- Pages on the regional names and variants — Daadi, Navakankari and Nau Goti — and how they differ from each other.
- A history of the morris family of games that separates what is documented from what is merely repeated.
Our editorial approach
Every article on the site is written for this site. Where a page makes a historical claim, it lists its sources so readers can check them, and where a claim is disputed — such as the often-repeated 3,000-year date for the game — we say so rather than repeat it as fact.
The rules shown in the articles are the same rules the game engine enforces. If you find a mistake in either, or you play a regional variant we have not described, we would genuinely like to hear about it.
Who makes it
Tigadi is designed, written and built by Shivendra Verma, an independent software developer. It is a small, independent project, not affiliated with any game publisher.
How the site is funded
The game and every article are free to use. To cover hosting and development, the site may show advertising served by Google AdSense. Ads never change how the game plays, and nothing on the site is behind a paywall. Our Privacy Policy explains what data advertising and the site itself use.
